The Sartorialist – coming soon to all coffee tables

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

There are so many reasons to be lovin’ The Sartorialist blog and soon to be released book. The artistic collection of everyday photos of people on the street have allowed the blog to become an influence in both fashion and photography. Photos taken all over the world, both men and women, and of every age and race, showcase a wide range of personalities and possibilities. The photos provide insight to style trends in a variety of cultural settings and the “on the street” perspective is inspirational and relatable. But even more noteworthy are the quality of the photographs and how they allow the viewer to realize that the overall look is really about the subject more than the clothes. The photographs really show the beauty and unique facets of people beyond the clothing.

Superheroes Downtown

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

Friday nights, starting this Friday July 17th, superheroes will be invading Downtown Los Angeles. If you want to get away from the heat, come downtown to Pershing Square with a blanket and snacks to watch a free superhero themed movie. Chill out and relax in the city, soak up the culture, and have some fun surrounded by the beautiful city lights and skyscrapers.

The movies are different every week, ranging from Spiderman to Indiana Jones, and they all start at 8pm. Makes a perfect date night or pre-event to bar hopping or dinner. This is definitely a fun event to try and it’s very recession friendly, so you have nothing to lose. The city of Los Angeles is full of culture and great people, and this event just showcases how much fun you can have here.

Expanding the bar scene…LA style

Friday, July 10th, 2009

Upon hearing of the recent opening of the boutique Farmhaus in Los Feliz, we were curious to when we could check out their gear and store. Word is that they are carrying unique, hard to find denim, shoes and shirts from local and international designers. But we admit that we are also intrigued with the grand opening party Friday night (7/10) which includes free food, DJ’s, various clothing and shoe offerings and an open bar. We love that in LA any sort of promotion usually involves free food, drinks, promised celebrity sightings and a DJ. Last week for Guest Appreciation Day at LA Fitness, there was a local DJ mixing House music.

So maybe instead of waiting in line on weekends to pay $10 for a drink, perhaps a little research is needed to see what else is going on in LA. Perhaps you can still go somewhere and avoid the hassle of the line, bouncer/host and cover charge, yet still here some music and maybe score some free food and drinks. All while shopping or raising money for a charity or even working out!

To RSVP to the Farmhaus opening party visit them on Facebook. http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=118343758645

Livestrong Culture

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

When Nike and Lance Armstrong came together in 2004 with their yellow LIVESTRONG wristbands it became a global phenomenon. Seemingly overnight everyone had one on their wrist, and it was all for a good cause. Now in 2009 Armstrong and Nike have come together again to raise cancer awareness launching a global art exhibition.

More than twenty artists are participating in the event, creating art inspired by Armstrong’s dedication and commitment to the Lance Armstrong Foundation. All of the funds raised will go towards the fight against cancer. The exhibition starts in Paris, and then will travel to the United States by fall. By bringing a love of art together with a good cause, this cultural movement is expanding their reach, raising more awareness and funding for the foundation.
