No Coachella this year? Check out Record Store Day!

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

If you’re not packing up and heading to Coachella with everyone else in LA, consider checking out Record Store Day events on Saturday, April 17th.  Record Store Day is a day for independent owned record stores to celebrate artists and music.  A win win for you.  There will be special CD and vinyl releases and events exclusively for the day.  Check out www.recordstoreday.com for more info including a list of participating stores.  (p.s. we hear that the Smashing Pumpkins will be playing later that night and tickets will only be available to the first 250 Amoeba shoppers who pre-order the new Pumpkins album.)

The rest of you….have fun at Coachella!

Big Boi is back!!!

Tuesday, April 6th, 2010

Wow! Finally Big Boi’s long anticipated album, Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty has a release date of May 4th. Outkast fans have put in their dues waiting for something new and according to a MTV news report, Big Boi reports that Andre 3000 will be “featured prominently” throughout the album. While that could mean, well whatever you want it to, we’re hoping that this project will prompt them to release something together soon. But in the meantime, check out Shutterbug, a single from the album courtesy of thefader.com. We think you’ll quickly remember why you have been anxiously waiting!

2009 sneaker overview

Monday, January 11th, 2010

sneakernews.com released a “Top 30 Sneakers of 2009” list that is apparently quiet comprehensive amongst staff and sneaker buffs from the website. Though we don’t want to reveal the top 5, Jordan’s were repeated multiple times on the list, along with some of Kanye’s collaborations. We were happy to see the Air Griffey Max on the list and along with the newest installment from Kobe’s signature line with Nike, Nike Zoom Kobe IV. But the rest are definitely worth checking out at:

Protege has our attention

Monday, October 5th, 2009

Rapper Fat Joe recently announced that he has teamed up with Kmart and Sears and launched an affordable sneaker line, Protégé. He wanted to release a shoe that kids could afford, especially during the economic recession. We have been hearing some skepticism on the $34.99 price for the shoe although we haven’t heard a lot of negative comments about the quality or look of the shoe. Personally, we like the price trend and looking hoping others jump on the lower pricing trend.
